Co-op Spotlight: Steve Akins ~ Ellwood City Forge

“I can make good money?

“I don’t have to go to school?

“COUNT ME IN!” smiles Electrical Occupations senior Steve Akins. You see — Co-op truly IS the perfect program for him!

“This is why we train so hard in our first two years,” Akins continues, “so we can go out on co-op and begin to put our good skills to practice.” Akins states that the teachers — especially his shop teacher, Mr. Pete Montini — at Lawrence County CTC have showed him multiple skills and has taught him important life-lessons he uses on a daily basis. He is able to apply knowledge on the job.

As an electrical maintenance worker, Akins enjoys his job at Ellwood City Forge. “My co-workers are really great; they have taken me under their wing and have been a perfect example of what work-ethic in the real-world should be. Even though I am not physically in school, I’m learning so much!”

Steve Akins is thankful for his co-op job at ECF. “The Forge has been so generous with grants to our school, but they also support our co-op program, and for that, I am grateful.”
