Check Mate! 2026 Back-to-Back Champion, Cody Troutman!
During the second week of May, Lawrence County CTC proudly hosted its 5th Annual Chess Tournament. Students from across the school signed up to test their strategy and skill against fellow classmates in hopes of earning the championship title.
The tournament welcomed all students to participate, even those who were not members of the Chess Club, making it a fun and inclusive event for everyone interested in the game. This year’s competition followed a double-elimination format, giving each participant two opportunities to advance through either the winner’s or loser’s bracket and guaranteeing every player at least two matches.
In all, 19 students competed in the tournament, demonstrating impressive focus, problem-solving, and sportsmanship throughout the week. The event once again brought students together for friendly competition while celebrating a shared love of chess and strategic thinking.
When the dust settled, here are the results from the final four: In fourth place, Lethan Knis. Bringing home the bronze, Sidney Fradenburgh. In second, Damian Maggi, and, for the second year in a row, the trophy goes to Cody Troutman!
Congratulations, Cody — Chess Champ 2026!
