20 Medalists Return from SkillsUSA State Championships

The students of Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (CTC) have once again demonstrated exceptional talent, dedication, and professionalism, earning statewide recognition at last week’s SkillsUSA State Championships. Their outstanding performances reflect not only their technical expertise but also their commitment to excellence and pride in representing Lawrence County.

Among the top achievers, several students earned silver medals in highly competitive events. Minner was recognized in Advertising Design, a contest that challenges participants to showcase both technical skills and creative thinking in a real-world, agency-style environment. James Tolentino earned silver in Electrical Construction Wiring, a rigorous competition requiring mastery of the National Electric Code, precision in conduit bending, and hands-on installation of wiring systems.

In addition, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies team—comprised of Mya Kilgore, Makayla Fischer, Madison Peoples, Dhaysee Barbosa, Laela Kineston, Austin Gerrish, and Mackenzie Clark—earned silver for their exceptional teamwork and presentation. This competition evaluates participants’ understanding of the symbolism behind the SkillsUSA emblem, as well as their ability to communicate that meaning effectively through a coordinated presentation.

We are proud to announce that a number of Lawrence County CTC students captured gold medals. Additionally, Patricia Hutchinson and Belle Mulford earned gold in a state-level competition for Cake Decorating, highlighting their creativity, precision, and artistry in a highly specialized field.

The following gold medalists will go on to represent the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the SkillsUSA National Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, during the first week of June.

Their success not only brings pride to their school and community but also underscores the value of career and technical education in preparing students for future careers.
