More Than Just Fun: LCCTC Celebrates Home School Extra-Curriculars
Ask any student why they join a sport, band, cheerleading squad, or the school play, and the answer is often simple: fun and friends. And who could blame them? These activities create lasting memories and build strong social connections. But here’s the bonus: extracurriculars offer so much more than fun.
Getting involved in school-sponsored activities opens the door to personal growth and real-world preparation. Students who step outside the traditional classroom setting gain invaluable soft skills—like teamwork, time management, leadership, and communication—that are essential in both the workplace and life.
At Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (LCCTC), we’re proud to see so many of our students seizing the opportunity to get involved. Whether it’s joining clubs like Student Council, School-Wide Positive Behavior, Peer Leadership, FFA, or SkillsUSA, our students are developing confidence, responsibility, and a sense of community.
Many LCCTC students also maintain strong ties with their home schools, participating in sports, band, cheerleading, and school plays. These dual involvements allow them to shine in multiple arenas and remind us that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. The also develop Personal and Workplace Skills like Work Ethic, Responsibility, Flexibility, Self-Motivation, Communication, Teamwork, and Leadership.
From the field to the stage, and everywhere in between, these activities offer students a place to belong, to grow, and to excel. The real win? These experiences help shape well-rounded, confident young adults who are better prepared for whatever comes next—whether that’s college, the workforce, or something entirely new.
At LCCTC, we celebrate our students' drive and passion to continue doing what brings them joy. We know that their involvement today is helping to build the foundation for a brighter, more successful tomorrow.
