STEAM Students Take Flight as Drone Instructors!
Students from Mrs. Brown’s STEAM: Drone class joined forces with Mrs. Lyon’s Service Occupations Shop to learn all about operating drones — and to have a little fun while doing it!
The goal of the lesson was to turn the STEAM students into Drone Instructors. After giving a quick safety briefing, the STEAM students explained how drones work. They talked about how the spinning propellers create lift, and how the remote control helps a drone move up and down, forward and backward, and even turn left or right.
Between giggles, cheers, and moments of deep concentration, students from both classes took turns flying the drones. First, it was the STEAM student providing instruction and demonstration, and then it was time to turn over control to the OS students. These beginner pilots learned not only how to control the drones, but they also discovered the many jobs that certified drone pilots can have — from photography and agriculture to emergency response and package delivery.
By the end of the lesson, everyone had a blast and walked away with new skills and new respect for drone technology. Just look at their smiles — it’s clear this was a high-flying success!
