The Young Buck Competition Begins!

by Mackenzie Bollinger (Cos junior) and Owen Davis (COT junior)

The young buck competition has begun! Each week, we will host five separate events to determine the winner:  This week, it was a test of strength. In the weeks to follow, there will be archery, hammer throwing, flushing a nail, tug of war, and a secret final event.

The winning buck of the competition will receive a trophy and a party for their shop.

After the competition, seniors will have the opportunity to complete an application for the scholarship. This competition is the brainchild of two wonderful teachers and class advisors, Ms. Cozza and Ms. Brown.

Drake Vanhorn, Restaurant Trades:  “It’s fun. We just started, but I can’t wait for the next competition.”

Jon Perrine, Service Occupations:  “It was amazing! It was fun, exciting, and lots of fun!”

Timmy Conrad, Auto Technology:  “I’m tired, but it’s awesome and exciting!”

Blaze Dando, Welding:  “It’s fun. I’m not worried about losing. Although I don’t care if I win, it's all for fun! I was hand-picked by my shop, and I’m proud to represent them.”

Daryl Rich, Computer & Office Technology:  “It’s pretty cool and exciting.”

Gage Cornelius, Machine Tool Technology:  “It wasn’t bad, it was fun, to say the least.”

Alex Rountree, Veterinary Assistant:  “It was fun, and I can’t wait for the weight competition.”

Ms. Cozza:   “We’re really excited to see the enthusiasm from the bucks and their willingness to compete!”

Ms. Tyler, Phys-Ed Teacher:  “It’s pretty fun, it's nice to have a competition through exercise.”

Mr. Simon, Phys-Ed Teacher:   “Before you're a trophy buck… you have to be a young buck.”

Mrs. Caiazza, Principal:   “I think it will be exciting to watch the various events. Archery is one of my favorites.”

The next Young Buck competition is the Hammer Throw contest! For this contest, anyone can purchase an advantage for any of the Young Bucks!

  • For $10, a student can get an extra throw.

  • For $20, students can use a lighter hammer.

  • For $50.00, students can move three feet closer to the target.

To purchase an advantage, see Mrs. Brown!

Remember, shops will receive a party if their Young Buck wins the whole contest! Be sure to check out the scoreboard by Restaurant Trades each week to see how the competition is going.
