An Entry with a Smile

Many of our students enthusiastically enter the doorways to the school with a smile — eager to see their friends, ready to learn a lesson that will help them take one step closer to their career goals. This is certainly true of Commercial Art seniors Zoey Galat and Nevada Grannis.

This dynamic duo has made it a mission to ensure they put their talented touch on the school, and for these two, in addition to their contagious smiles, this means they put their brushes to work.

This fall, Galat and Grannis designed the front window painting that greets our students and staff with a cheery ghost wearing red Chuck Taylor-style high tops, a stack of pumpkins, and a dash of Halloween candy.

First making a small sketch and achieving approval from Mr. Anthony DeRosa, Commercial Arts instructor, they transferred their sketch to a super-sized sketch ready for outlining. Then it was time to put their skillful hands to work filling in and guiding each stroke of the brush to make the sketches come to life!

Great job Zoey and Nevada! Thank you for sharing your gifts and talents with us, and we look forward to seeing what else you have at the tip of your brush!

We REALLY look forward to seeing what you do to represent SkillsUSA as two of the three-member Promotional Bulletin Board team this year; they are on the search for an underclassmen to round out their team — someone who can continue our quest for excellence to repeat as state-medalists!

We can’t help but smile when we see the fruits of your labor — even if that “fruit” is a squash.
