TFIM Talk: Referee Cultivates Cross-Career Skills

TFIM wrapped up the 2019 Career Exploration series with a presentation by in-house basketball referees, Matthew Barker and Anthony Ovial.

They shared with the students what it is like to be a referee and what skills and training might be necessary for this job -- a career for some.  The gentlemen discussed how referees need to gain the trust and respect of the players, coaches, and fans while maintaining a solid understanding of the rules and regulations.

Therefore, much of the presentation they focused on how to build that image of trust and diplomatically handle criticism, a skill particularly beneficial to students. Many qualities needed as a referee could be applied to cultivate a professional image and advance in any career.
