Graduate Spotlight: Jem Cox

“I can’t even begin to describe how much LCCTC and the Health Assistant program helped me,” states Jem (Montgomery) Cox. “I was prepared for whatever the military was going to throw at me.”

In the summer after graduation from LCCTC, Jem put her post secondary plans into action with the United States Navy. She successfully completed Basic Corpsman Training in 2016 and began her service doing tasks equivalent to those completed by both a medical assistant and Licensed Professional Nurse. All throughout her coursework, she was pleased to find that with virtually everything she needed to study, she had already mastered every lesson from anatomy to first aid to patient care!

Currently, Jem is serving as a Petty Officer 3rd class in the Navy in San Antonio, TX working toward an associates’ degree to become an X Ray technician. Of the several awards she has earned, one of the ones she is most proud of is one of the highest ranking awards that she has earned is the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (NAM); this is awarded for “outstanding achievement or meritorious service not of a nature that would otherwise warrant awarding the Commendation Medal” (https://www.usamilitary).

“I say all the time that nursing was one of the best life choices I have ever made.” LCCTC is pleased that Jem successfully made her start within our walls; we can hardly wait to see where Jem’s career will take her!

In conclusion, Jem, on this day and every day, we gratefully tell you, Jem, “Thank you for your service!”
