SWPBS Hosts Lockley for an Incentive Event

by Aubrey Kumrow, Class of 2027

Typically, our school’s “SWPBS” events include fun trips to the movies, ice-skating, the bounce-park, or outdoor games, but recently, the SWPBS Leadership Team had fun of a different kind.  On December 12th, Lawrence County CTC invited New Castle’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports team from New Castle’s Harry W. Lockley to participate in cookie decorating and a variety of kid-friendly leadership activities in the library.

Hosted by the School-Wide Positive Behavior team, the activities included ”The Floor is Lava”, “Cross the River”, "Through the Hoop, and the Caterpillar Game.  Giggles were a’plenty as the little ones enjoyed each activity.

Some of our members had the kids tell them funny stories as they were waiting for their turns. Other members had fun getting to know the kids, teaching them different ways to work together, and encouraging the kids to make good choices and to always be kind.

As high school members, we learned not only how to work together with our SWPBs team, we also learned to work with leaders younger than us. We also learned patience and time management.

Thank you, Restaurant Trades, Mrs. Heasley, and the SWPBS for a fun-filled day! Overall, our time with the younger kids was a lot of work, but it was certainly worth it!  Serving others helps us to appreciate all our school does to support our good choices, too!
