Hooks to Continue Wrestling as a Norse

After wrestling for the past three years, our very own Cameron Hooks, Advanced Automotive Mechanics Technician at LCCTC, is ready to take his passion for wrestling to the next level as he has announced his commitment to Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Majoring in Mechanical Engineering, he’ll continue his wrestling career and will now trade the red and black Hurricane uniform to don the blue and white as a Norse.

“I would have to say that Cam is one of the most coachable kids I’ve ever met,” claims Ne-Ca-Hi Wrestling Coach, Sam Constant. “He’s always willing to learn and never backs down from competition. As a result, he has exceeded expectations. I’m proud of him.”

When Hooks first stepped onto the mat, he was a sophomore at LCCTC; change was everywhere for him, and the uncertainty of his decision to study at a new school followed him to after-school practice each day that year. However, instead of giving up, he dug in his heels and pushed through; as a result, Hooks was able to see his potential through the fear of doing something new, and now, he’s reaching for the stars.

Hooks states, “I want to thank all of New Castle Wrestling Coaching Staff and the kids who wrestled beside me. Thank you to my friends from Ne-Ca-Hi and LCCTC who have always believed in me. I also want to thank my parents who helped me along this journey.”

As an LCCTC Eagle studying automotive technology, Hooks was still able to compete in the wrestling program at his home school. There have been plenty of obstacles — especially since the spring of 2020, but this didn’t stop him.

Hooks is the sort of student who, if he can’t find a way, will make a way. “I never thought that I would ever make it, until now.,” continues Hooks. “I worked so hard for where I’m at, and the work is now paying off, but I’m not done yet.”

Many students enjoy the brand new start that comes with starting at a new school, and LCCTC is no exception. “Coming here {to LCCTC] was one of the best choices I’ve ever made,” Hooks states. “It was a mind-opener for me. Not only did it let me pursue my passion, but it also led me to find out who I really am as a person, and for that, I’ll always be grateful for my time at LCCTC.

LCCTC looks forward to seeing what’s in store for Hooks over the next four years. We wish him much luck and send him to Iowa with our very best wishes.
