RT's Sophomores Talk Turkey

Each year it happens. Some say it’s an accident; others say it’s luck, but the faculty at LCCTC knows the real reason — it’s a result of hard work and skillful training. This year was no exception, and Ms. Jennifer Price’s sophomore class did not disappoint. Once again, the sophomore Restaurant Trades crew prepared an amazingly delicious Thanksgiving feast for the faculty, and in the process, learned what it takes to be successful in the restaurant industry and in life.

There were homemade dinner rolls, mashed potatoes and stuffing made from scratch, green bean casserole, golden corn and marshmallow-topped sweet potatoes, fresh-made cranberry sauce, roasted turkey and gravy, and of course, homemade pumpkin rolls and pumpkin pie — all hand-made by our talented students and served with proud smiles by the students.

When the lunch bells rang, the students were at their posts in the RT dining room, dressed for the holiday. Mrs. Cozza, history teacher exclaims, “Everything looks so nice! I look forward to this every year, and every year, it is always amazing!”

Mrs. Jaime Jones, cosmetology instructor agrees and adds, “It was a fantastic Thanksgiving lunch today at school”

Lucy Allen has been making this traditional meal for the last three years, but this year, she took on the role as one of a few Shop Assistants. Now a senior, Lucy Allen states, “The sophomores and first-years did such a great job. We’re all tired, but it’s a good tired.”

Allen takes great pride as her role has changed from student to mentor. “I’m also so proud of each and every one. They’ve all come so far since I first met them.

“Even though the sophomores and first-years all come from different backgrounds, they all learned how to work as a team. Though learning how to cook is important, teamwork is a lesson that will carry them through their lives,” Allen states. “They are bonding together as a shop family, and it shows in how well they work together and in the final product they produce. I love each and every one of them!”

Great job, RT sophomores and first-years! Great guidance shop assistants, and once again, well-done, Ms. Price!
