Six CA Students Selected for Show

Published October 27, 2021: We have exciting news for our students in the Commercial Arts program! From over 190 entries, only 68 works making the cut. Of those 68 selected, LCCTC has 10 works by 6 of our CA students accepted into this year’s Juried Regional Art Exhibition hosted by Slippery Rock University.

Each CA student is vying for possible awards and scholarships — which will be announced at the closing reception. However, just getting into the show is an award in itself because only the best make the cut.

“I’m just a sophomore, so I never ever expected my work to be selected,” says Leo Drespling (Laurel). “I’m so surprised! What an honor!”

Junior Tommilynn Genareo (Shenango) had a similar reaction to the exciting news: “At first, it felt odd to be picked for this show because this was my first show, and I never thought my art would be selected; being among those selected makes me determined to do create more art in the future!”

When asked about the inspiration for her work, Genareo continues, “For this entry, my work is inspired by different lighting techniques. I looked at portraits of different people, and find one I like, focusing on the direction of the light and the effects it makes. I can’t wait to enter more art in additional exhibitions!

This is Makenzie Helle’s (Union) third year at LCCTC. She has certainly learned a lot through her studies and it shows. Three of her pieces, “2021 Color Pencil on Paper” (a woodland fairy in purple), “Share the Wealth” (digital), “Mother Nature Cries” (a collage) have all been selected for the show. “Through my work in the commercial art program, I've built the confidence in my work to enter art shows, such as the SRU Exhibition. I am very honored to have been chosen by fellow artists to have my work displayed.” As a senior, Helle is one of two LCCTC students who have their eye on a possible scholarship as a result of this exhibition. With that in mind, she continues, “It is an incredible opportunity and I am very excited to visit the show with my family.”

Additional students selected for the exhibition are: senior Jasmine Wrobleski (Union) and juniors Caden Hall (Shenango), and Katherine Tillia (Ellwood).

Congratulations and good luck, CA artists! We are so incredibly proud!!
