SkillsUSA Visits the Flight 93 National Memorial
TRIP TO FLIGHT 93 MEMORIAL IN SHANKSVILLE, PA
On May 6th, the Lawrence County Chapter of SkillsUSA made a meaningful stop on its way to the state Capitol in Harrisburg at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville.
There, students paid their respects by visiting the tower of voices, the Flight Path and Overlook, the Memorial Plaza, laying a flower, and reflecting on the events of the September 11 attacks.
“As I walked out to the observation deck,” Austin Gerrish, reflects, “it was as if I was traveling the path of the plane. The observation deck made it feel like I was hovering above the field.
Elizabeth Stubrich considers the interactive portion of the visitor center as she considers, “Hearing the voices of the people on the plane struck me the most.”
Stubrich continues, “It made me think, ‘Who would I call if I were in that situation?’ The thought of it just makes me want to cry. How brave they were to know what would happen in a few moments -- to have the mindset to give their family their last words of love.”
With this visit, they gained a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made that day.
After the trip to Shanksville, our students headed to Harrisburg to be recognized by Rep. Marla Brown on the house floor of the Representative’s Chamber.
