SkillsUSA is Recognized in Harrisburg

TRIP TO HARRISBURG TO BE RECOGNIZED ON THE HOUSE FLOOR

A group of students from Lawrence County Career and Technical Center traveled to Harrisburg on May 6 to promote Career and Technical Education and SkillsUSA. During their visit, the team was recognized on the House floor of the Pennsylvania Capitol by Marla Brown for their outstanding accomplishments.

This recognition follows a banner year for LCCTC at the SkillsUSA State Competition, where students earned an impressive 20 medals—the highest total in the school’s history. Their success has earned nine students the opportunity to compete at the national level this June at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta. National qualifiers include Mila Conley, Madelyn Allen, and Breanna Stubbs in Career Pathways; Nate Hill, Austin Gerrish, and Damien Massioni on the American Spirit team; Sophie Wright in Health Occupations Professional Portfolio; Camron Cirelli in Industrial Motor Control; and Elliot Sellers in Technical Computer Applications. Two additional state gold medalists, Belle Mulford and Patricia Hutchinson, will also travel to Atlanta later that week to join the national competitors.

“It was such an impactful experience being recognized by Representative Brown and the other representatives,” said Nate Hill. “It was so cool to be in the place where the laws and bills are made. Big thanks to Rep. Brown and all of her team for having us.”

“I loved being in the Capitol!” added Makayla Fischer. “I loved everything about it. The building is incredibly beautiful, but it was really exciting to watch the representatives and senators debate and vote! What an amazing experience!”

“When I first entered the main rotunda, I was stunned — all of the white marble and the winding stairs,” said Austin Gerrish. “And then my eyes traveled up and up to see the murals. The murals on the walls of the House Chamber and the Senate Chamber were amazing. What an incredible building we have here in PA — it really lends weight to the laws being made.”

The trip not only celebrates student achievement through SkillsUSA but also highlights the importance of career and technical education in preparing students for success in both their careers and communities.
